If you told your mother that you loved nature, and she said 'no you don't,' who is your mother speaking to?
The answer is that she was not speaking to you, the kid who loved nature. She was speaking to a fictional version of you that she created in her own head. Similarly, when you refuse to accept an LGBTQ+ person's identity, you are politely refusing to acknowledge their personhood. Love requires embracing a person's reality, not a version of them you projected. You cannot love a person while also requesting their erasure.
