Should college athletes be paid?

I think so because they are most likely performing at a pretty high level of competitiveness and although they should not be paid as much as professionals they should still be paid

Look, the practical problem with paying college athletes is simple: the money has to come from somewhere. Only football and men's basketball generate real revenue. So if we start cutting checks, schools would either have to slash non-revenue sports—think track, swimming, gymnastics—or jack up tuition for everyone else. A full athletic scholarship is already worth tens of thousands of dollars a year. That's not nothing. Adding a salary on top would bankrupt the whole system for most sports and most athletes. It'd turn college into a minor league for a handful of stars while everyone else loses their chance to compete. That's not fair either.
