One piece is a bad anime as I believe that it becomes repetitive and relies heavily on animation+horny bait. Almost if not all of the One Piece female characters have ludicrous anatomies, breasts larger than the size of their head and a waist unrealistically thin. But getting to the repetitiveness, most of the anime runs on the same format: 1. The crew arrives at a new island that’s ruled by a tyrannical leader, 2. Zoro gets lost, 3. Luffy gets a random power up or an upgrade to a past power up and defeats the tyrannical leader, 4. Luffy gets a feast. The jokes are: Zoro gets lost, chopper still having a low bounty and Nami hitting Luffy on the head while blushing and a comedically shaped bruise appearing on his head.

I'll give the other side this much: One Piece does have a lot of the standard shonen ingredients, so calling it generic isn't crazy on paper. But generic and bad aren't the same thing, and execution is what actually matters. The series has run for over two decades and stayed one of the best-selling manga ever for a reason. Its world-building is genuinely enormous, its foreshadowing pays off years later, and characters like Luffy are iconic for a reason. Plenty of shows copy that formula and flop. So the real argument isn't that it's original, it's that it does the familiar stuff better than almost anyone.

You say “Plenty of shows use that same formula and flop” well that proves that One Piece got lucky. Also, just because it’s the best selling manga OAT doesn’t mean it’s necessarily good or the best by any means (appeal to popularity). You haven’t addressed my arguments, the anime is repetitive and gets boring after 3 arcs. Sure, Luffy is iconic but plenty of characters are iconic and badly written. I will admit one piece worldbuilding is good, but I don’t think Oda used his worldbuilding to its fullest potential

Picture someone who drops the show after a few islands because it looks like the same loop: new island, tyrant, punch. Fair. But then they miss Water 7 turning into a betrayal mystery, or Marineford where the crew isn't even together. The formula is a frame, not the whole painting, and the long payoffs are why it's lasted. My opponent's fanservice point is legit and worth criticizing, but that's a content flaw, not proof the whole thing is generic. Plenty of shows copy this and don't land.

Marineford is one of the best arcs of one piece specifically because it strays from the mangas/anime’s classing boring formula. After that it’s mostly the same, whole cake- big mom, Wano- Kaido. Also, Imus design is extremely generic. Decades people have been waiting for his design only for him to be a classic dark skinned dude with black wigs and horns.

Think about long-running series like Doctor Who or The Simpsons. Both reuse a format pretty much every episode, and people still call them great. Repetition alone doesn't make something bad; it's whether each repeat adds something new. The other side is right that One Piece leans on that loop, and the fanservice is a fair criticism. But being popular and being good aren't the same as being lucky. Two decades of readers staying invested means the payoffs actually land. A genuinely generic show loses people by arc three. This one keeps earning them back.
