Look at MRAM and spintronics: promised as the next big thing for decades, yet they remain niche because fabs, costs, and CMOS integration decide what ships. Altermagnetism might be elegant physics, but a new magnetic order doesn't automatically rewrite the trillion-dollar silicon supply chain. The other side can point to fast, zero-net-magnetization switching, and that's fair. But electronics eras are won by manufacturable, standardized, cheap components, not lab headlines. Until altermagnets clear that bar, calling it a new era is hype, not engineering reality.
