The other side keeps saying citizenship is just another qualification, but that skips the actual record: noncitizen voting is vanishingly rare, while the checks misfire at massive scale. The other side's fix still depends on the same flawed records. Texas flagged 95,000 people, most were citizens. So the cost falls on lawful voters, especially naturalized citizens, many of whom live with heat, floods, and storms. That's a bad trade for a problem that barely exists. If we care about accurate rolls, we can clean them without a system that scares eligible people away. Citizenship matters, but this tool doesn't work.
