I can understand why one would think artists shouldn't release albums in genres they don't master - after all, they may not be as pleasant to listen to and may be a slight disappointment to fans. However, its very important to realize that expecting artists to only create music that they know will be popular with fans can lead to music being much more boring, and there will be little to no growth on the artists part. When artists release more experimental albums with genres that they haven't explored much before, they not only broaden the horizon on what kind of music they can create, but also the diversity in their music increases and it causes the artist's fans to listen to different kinds of music, which is really important in an industry where only a particular type of music is able to actually get popular, and most popular artists produce the same genre of music. Also, it's logically impossible for artists to never release albums in genres they don't master, because for example in the early stages of an artist's career, they likely won't have mastered any music genre. So, even though they haven't mastered any music genres yet, the logical first step would be to create music in a genre that you want to gain experience in and then share it with the world. And I think this should also be true for any other part in an artists career, where if the artist wanted to gain experience in a certain genre, they should release music in that genre. After all, it is the artist's choice of what music they release, regardless of how well it does with fans. If an artist is unable to release any music in a genre that they aren't familiar with, then they will be essentially trapped producing the same music forever, stifling any of the creative liberties that the artist should have.
