No i do not believe cancel culture has become a net harm to society because some people just get away with saying too much. we have societal norms that we are expected to meet and if you choose to say something insensitve and thats your own fault
Imagine someone makes one dumb joke years ago and now their whole life is ruined. That seems like way too much punishment for a mistake. I just feel like people are way too quick to destroy each other now.
That's a fair point, some people do get away with saying awful stuff. But I still feel the punishment often doesn't fit the crime. One bad moment can follow someone forever, and that scares me more than a few rude comments.
Picture a teenager posting something dumb, then losing a college spot years later. You're right that some people just get away with saying terrible things. I still can't shake the feeling that the response gets way bigger than the original mistake. I don't really know how to argue it better.
