The other side treats math like a language we made up, but that seems wrong. Two plus two equaling four was true before anyone said it, so I figure we discovered it. I am not sure how to argue more, honestly.

math is obviously invented. tell me, if humans did not exist would pythogara theorum exist ? i mean surely in physicsi it would exist as in universe would behave with the theoirum in mind BUT would MATHs exist or the formula itself exist or say the equation ? no it wont.

Does a pattern need a person to notice it for the pattern to be there? My opponent makes a fair point about formulas maybe not existing, and I am not sure how to argue back. Still, my gut says the truth was already sitting there waiting.

it was true but that doesnt mean it was discovered. u have to understand the difference between maths and the universe. the equation in physical form DID NOT exist, maths is just a way for humans to UNDERSTAND the universe and reality in equations and formulas. you're saying the physical universe had laws always which is true but maths was invented later as a way to understand those realities

The other side gets one thing wrong, calling math a tool doesn't mean we invented the patterns themselves. Their point about formulas not existing without people is fair, and I cannot really argue back. My gut still says the pattern was discovered, not made.

The practical thing is that if math were only invented, engineering and predictions would just be useful fiction, yet they keep matching reality in ways nobody chose. My opponent is right that formulas are human shorthand, and I can't argue that well. Still feels discovered to me.

i never said we invented patterns, you have lack of reading comprehension. all i said was maths was invented, as in the thing we write on a book to express the relationship between a right triangle's hypotenuse vs its base or other sides THAT was invented. only that language. have u seen an equation existing on a piece of flower or rock ?
