Well I would argue that esports is a sports. From the definition of sport, “it is a physical activity or game which requires skills,effort, and adherence to certain rules, done for enjoyment or competition” Esports is basically about online games, where people build teams to compete with each other. Though esports does not have the element of being physical, however it definitely haas the element of competition and challenge of skill.

If you can play it sitting down in a chair, is that really a sport? I mean, maybe, but sports feel like they should need your whole body moving and real physical strain. I am not sure I can argue it better, but that's just my gut.

Well ur gut is not always a factual truth right. As I have already mentioned the definition of sport comprises of a game, does not have to be physical. It argument on sports needing a physical element is hence invalid.

But isn't there a difference between a game and a sport? You're right that esports has rules and skill and competition, that's fair. Still, my gut says a sport should make your body do the work, not just your hands and eyes. I can't really argue it more than that.

Well a sport is technically a game and a viceversa. For example, a game of basketball. All sports are technically games constrained now by fixed rules, an increased sense of conmpeition and somewhat greater seriousness. So esports fufils alll of those criterias, just because it does not require one to participate in physical activity does not rightfully make it not a sport. If I had to argue, think of a sport which requires little physical activity, maybe gun shooting idk, there is minimum physical activity required, yet it’s a sport. There are entire competitions built around it. This proves that a sport is not defined by being active as we have to consider so many other factors.

You're right the dictionary wording is broad, and I can't argue definitions well. But that's kind of my point: if almost any game counts, then the word sport stops meaning much. My gut still says real sport needs your body doing the work, not just thumbs.
