If politicians get to draw the lines, a lot of voters end up stuck in seats where their vote barely matters. That feels like the practical result, and it makes democracy weaker. I am not great at arguing this, but it just seems wrong.
Well politicians are us right? And in order for them to even get their seat, they have to be favored liked by the people, because ultimately we are society. The way we run things is because enough humans allow it that way, or eles we couldnt be this way. Maybe it isnt about politicians shouldn't be politicians but more of, who should the politicans be, and people who arent politicians need to realize their influence more.

Imagine a neighborhood split into three weird strips, so one block's votes get drowned out in each district. My opponent says politicians are us, fair enough, but I still can't see how that's a real choice. It just feels like the game is rigged before voting starts.
Are you saying that no matter who we choose, there will always be a part of our voting that gets ignored? One blocks votes will get drowned out. I dont think thats humans fault, and since we create our own system I dont think we can complain about it. A democracy isnt everyone has to get their own way or everyone has to win, it is simply we get to choose who does win. If you feel like the game is rigged, you actually have enough power, as a human to have the humans who agree with you, vote the state laws, vote the politicians who you feel like would fix this predicament. And if anything, you even have the freedom to change the game itself, as a group with enough who can grant that group the systemic power
