AI is a pattern-matching engine, not a discovery engine. Real scientific discovery means proposing causal mechanisms and testing them against reality. AI just finds correlations in the data you feed it, and you know what? Correlations lie. Every statistical artifact, every confounded variable, gets dressed up as insight if you let a black box crunch numbers. Worse, AI offers no explanation for its output. If a scientist cannot say why a result matters, that result is not knowledge. It is a lead, at best. Call it a tool for generating guesses, not a legitimate discovery tool.
