I'm not saying everyone starts on a level playing field. In fact, people start on completely different levels.
While voting is a public good due to it emphasizing a persons freedom to choose their leaders, making it so people are forced to vote, especially people who don't actively partake in politics completely defeats the purpose of a person being allowed to choose if they can vote.
But making participation the default, again, completely defeats the purpose of, and violates, a persons freedom to choose. That's like saying everyone should eat pancakes because a select few people like pancakes.
How can you make the system represent everyone when you have people being forced to vote for people that a - they have no confidence in, and b - they want nothing to do with?
