The other side keeps treating a lobbying ban as if it would silence technical knowledge. It wouldn't. Companies can still submit research, answer questions, and participate in public comment periods. What a ban removes is the paid access, the dinners, the campaign contributions, the revolving-door pressure. That isn't expertise; it's leverage. And while it's true that finance and energy also lobby, tech is not just another industry—it's the infrastructure of public discourse itself. When the platforms that host our debates also buy the rules, we aren't getting informed policy. We're getting the policy that best protects their market position. Let them inform, but stop letting them buy.
