The practical consequence is that people will hand AI the one thing worship always claims: final authority over meaning. If a system can answer "what should I do with my life?" in a confident voice, plenty of people will stop asking whether it's conscious and start obeying it. That's functional worship, even without candles. My opponent will say worship needs a god, rituals, transcendence. Fair enough, but humans have worshipped money, nations, and markets without a deity. I'm skeptical of grand claims, so I won't say everyone will. But once an opaque machine becomes the oracle for truth and comfort, the line between tool and idol gets very thin.
