Your example is based on a rare event, not what life is like most of the time. During the pandemic, social media helped some people stay connected, but that doesn't prove it's healthy for children to use every day. Research has consistently linked heavy social media use in young teens to higher rates of anxiety, depression, poor sleep, cyberbullying, and lower self-esteem. Saying "kids will find a way around the rules" also isn't a strong reason to avoid having rules at all, we still have age limits for alcohol, gambling, and driving even though some teenagers break those laws. Those laws exist because society recognizes that children are more vulnerable to the risks. A social media age limit follows the same principle: it won't stop every case, but it can reduce overall harm and protect millions of young people during one of the most important stages of brain development.
