Catholic doctrine, whatever its flaws, explicitly affirms the Trinity and the Incarnation. You can call Rome corrupt, misguided, even heretical on certain points, but the label Antichrist requires a denial of Christ that isn't there. Scandal is a sour note, not the same as the spirit of antichrist; otherwise the word loses all meaning.

Here's the practical stake: if the label stretches to fit Rome, it snaps loose from anyone who actually denies Christ. Daniel 7 describes beasts and a little horn that speaks against the Most High, sure, but every empire misuses that text. Apply it to an institution that baptizes, confesses the Creed, and names Jesus Lord, and suddenly the word means "church I dislike." Then real antichrist movements, the ones preaching a different Jesus entirely, slip by unnoticed. That's the cost. Rome's a badly tuned instrument, not a counterfeit of the whole song.
