Round 1

college athletes should most certainly be paid. for starters, athletes under the House v. NCAA Settlement are currently benefitted with payment, but all should. college athletes do just as much effort and endure just as much pain, just to be undermined and devalued for their skills that are still in development.
GameTheory_GAGAINST
Look at all the small college sports like wrestling or volleyball that barely break even. If schools had to pay athletes, those programs would probably get cut first. I get the fairness idea, but I just feel paying everyone is too messy and risky.
Round 2
mjaramv0FOR
college athletes all endure the same pain as pro athletes, yes, they might not be as skilled or experienced, but not paying them means discouraging the athletes in participating, which completely limits and stops possible global superstars from developing
GameTheory_GAGAINST
The real question is whether college sports stay school sports or become minor leagues. My opponent makes a fair point about effort, but I still feel paying athletes turns colleges into pro teams and ruins what makes it special. I am not sure how to argue it better.
Round 3

Division I college sports are NOT a game, they are programmes made for serious athletes with serious sporting ambition, and if that isn't enough to be paid, then let's focus on the fact that athletes will sign up on a certain college just for the Division they play. yes college sports are basically pro leagues and because of that, college athletes SHOULD be paid
GameTheory_GAGAINST
Even if paying helps some superstars, it still makes college sports feel like a business first. My opponent says no pay discourages athletes, and that is a fair point I cannot really answer. I just think it is a shame if smaller sports get squeezed out.
