Imagine a commuter who installs a smart lock, camera, and voice assistant. One weak password or unpatched hub, and a stranger can watch the camera, unlock the door, or fake a voice command through the window. The other side may say these devices add alarms and remote checks, and that is fair. But every internet-connected device is another door into the home, often protected by cheap software and no updates. Safety should not depend on a company's cloud staying secure forever. That is why I say smart home devices, on balance, make us less safe.
