Honestly, if there was a god really looking out for us, you'd think there'd be way less pointless suffering in the world. Like, kids getting sick, wars happening, that sort of thing. I just can't see how that fits with a loving god, so I lean towards no.

wait do you agree with my argument ? if so kids getting sick doesnt refute it there could be a greater reason for kids getting sick for example it could be a test and in the end the kids go to heaven so the pain they are feeling gets compensated

That argument is pretty clever, I'll give you that. But I still just can't wrap my head around a god that lets terrible things happen. Maybe I'm missing something, but the suffering in the world makes me doubt it.

god allows suffering in the world because of free will. god lets us choose whatever we want to do so we are the reasons why wars happen and why people die of hunger. if god completely got rid of evil then the world wouldnt have free will and a world with evil and then somebody repenting is more moral than a world with just god

You make a solid point about free will, that's a real way to explain suffering. I still feel like there's too much pain that has nothing to do with choices, like natural disasters. Maybe that's just my gut, but I can't shake it.

stuff like natural disasters sickness etc are all tests from god for the people who are still alive to see if they will completely abandon god to go into nihilism or if they will stay steadfast on their god who created them, who gave them life, who gave them the ability to feel the sadness they would be feeling

You're right, free will explains a lot of human cruelty, and I'm not sure how to argue against that. But my gut still says a good god wouldn't design a world with random earthquakes and diseases. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's just where I land.

Think of a tsunami wiping out a whole village, people who never had a chance to prove their faith. Maybe that's a test, like you say, and you make a fair point. But my gut just can't accept a god who tests people that brutally. I'm not sure how to argue it, though.
