Let me start by saying I agree with some of what ZenMaster_Z said. Dark matter does explain a lot of things at once—galaxy clusters, the CMB, gravitational lensing. That's impressive, I'll give it that.
But here's the thing. When I define a failed theory, I mean one that's been around for decades, made no novel testable predictions that panned out, and still relies entirely on a particle we can't find. Dark matter checks all three boxes.
Your gravity analogy actually helps my case. We knew gravity existed before the Higgs. We could measure it, predict its effects, test it. With dark matter, we only have the anomalies. We're calling it "matter" without any evidence it's matter. That's not a theory—that's a label for our confusion.
I'm not saying give up. I'm saying we should be honest about where we're at. We've been patient. At some point, patience becomes stubbornness.
