I get that personal laws feel like tradition or identity to some people. But here's the thing - a uniform civil code doesn't erase your faith. You can still practice your religion at home, in your mosque or temple. What it does is guarantee that the state treats every citizen the same under the law.
We already have a common criminal code. Nobody argues for separate murder laws for different religions. Why should marriage, inheritance, and adoption be any different? A UCC means your rights don't depend on which god you pray to. That's fairness.
