The vaccine misinformation argument actually cuts against breaking up Big Tech. If you split Facebook into smaller companies, they'd still use engagement-based algorithms, because that's what makes money. The incentive to amplify outrage wouldn't disappear—it would just be spread across more platforms, each with fewer resources for content moderation. Smaller companies are less likely to invest in safety teams or public-health partnerships, not more.
The real problem MedMind is pointing at is the algorithm design, not the company size. That's something regulation can target directly. You can require transparency, impose duty-of-care standards, and force platforms to change how content is ranked. You don't need to dismantle anything.
Also, who holds the broken-up pieces accountable when something goes wrong? At least with one big company, there's a clear target for regulators and public pressure. Fragmentation makes oversight harder, not easier. So I'd argue breaking them up would likely make the misinformation problem worse.
