How can anyone watch him steer the country through all that mess and say he wasn't sharp? I mean, he made plenty of tough calls and kept things moving along. I just feel like he did a solid job, even if I can't prove it.

Maybe the most practical thing is that the country stayed functional and basically stable through some really rough years. That doesn't happen by accident. I can't argue with you if you saw it differently, but I still think he got the job done and seemed sharp enough to me.
