When someone commits a serious felony, they’ve broken the basic deal we all have with society. If you’re not willing to follow the rules, it just makes sense you shouldn’t get a say in making them for everyone else. That’s my gut feeling, anyway.

You might think after serving time they're even, but I just can't shake the feeling that a serious felony shows a basic disrespect for the law. That's not the kind of person who should help decide our rules. I'm not sure how to argue it better, it's just how I feel.

Did you know about 4.6 million Americans can't vote because of felony convictions? That's a lot of people. You make a fair point that they've served their time, but I still feel like a serious crime just means you lost your say in the rules. Can't argue it better than that.
