Doesn't a scholarship already cover the main point of college? I get that my opponent says these athletes bring in money, and that seems fair, but paying them just feels like turning school into pro sports. I'm not sure how to argue it more than that.
Picture a swimmer and a football player on the same campus, both in class, both sore from practice. My opponent makes a fair point about the money, I honestly cannot argue with it. But paying only some of them just feels wrong to me.
Imagine the football stadium selling out while the lacrosse team plays for empty bleachers on the same Saturday. My opponent is right that college itself is not a scam, and I can't argue that. But paying athletes still feels like it would split students into paid and unpaid, and I just don't like it.
