Sam, you're right that companies are investing billions. But remember 3D TVs? Curved TVs? Companies threw money at those too because they needed something to sell, not because customers needed them. That's exactly how gimmicks work—they're marketable, not necessarily useful.
The thing is, foldables force you to accept real downsides. You're paying double for a crease in the middle of your screen, worse battery life, and a thicker device. What are you actually getting? The ability to unfold your phone sometimes? Most people just want a reliable slab that works.
I'm not saying there's zero potential here. But right now, these are luxury toys for early adopters, not practical tools for regular people. And until they solve more problems than they create, that's pretty gimmicky to me.
