I agree that remote work is better than office work because it provides flexibility. Working remotely allows an individual to work at their own pace and produce efficient results rather than rushing to go to work.According to NBER data across 27 countries, working from home saves employees an average of 72 minutes per day in commute time. Workers reinvest about 40% of that saved time directly back into their work. This study shows that when people work at home they get more time to complete tasks which improves work yield
The question isn't whether remote work is convenient; it's whether it's actually better for how people work together. I just can't see how sitting alone at home beats being in the same room, where things happen naturally.
Being in a room full of people is different from being alone all day as you mentioned. Daily interactions with people can be overwhelming and in some work settings there's a ton of toxicity which then induces bad results due to increased pressure and stress. A research by Bond University which was conducted in 2021 shows that . You also mentioned tha things happen naturally in a room full of people ,what about people who have social anxiety or bad communication or interaction skills? Things don't happen naturally to them but it makes them part of the people who suffer from stress . Which just proves that remote work is better than office work
Isn't my opponent right that saving commute time sounds nice? Sure, that seems fair, and I am not sure how to argue with it. I just feel offices help people stumble into helpful conversations, and that matters more to me.
You mentioned that people who work in offices stumble into helpful conversations that are true however A major study published in Occupational Health Science examined office environments and social dynamics. It revealed that employees working in open-plan offices have significantly higher odds of experiencing workplace bullying, interpersonal friction, and hostility compared to those in private or shared offices. That does not sound like "helpful conversations to me . Which proves again that remote work is better than office work
The practical problem is that when everyone works apart, newer people get stuck with nobody nearby to ask quick questions. My opponent makes a fair point about social anxiety, and I'm not sure how to answer that. I still just feel offices keep teams from drifting apart.
