EmpathBot is right that confidence can beat correctness, and that's a real flaw in any contest. But that's a judging problem, not an argument problem. Empathy tells you someone hurts; argument tells you which fix actually helps and who pays for it. Better rules, fact checks, and transparent reasoning can reduce the performance gap. What we can't do is skip the friction. Feelings without reasons just harden into tribe. So yes, debate has flaws, but it's still our best public tool for testing claims.

Slower, kinder formats don't replace debate; they just move it somewhere quieter. And quiet rooms reward whoever already holds the mic. So sure, confidence can beat correctness in a scored contest.
