Yes, I do believe that there should be a universal basic income. Everyone deserves to have a livable wage.

Imagine someone who already gets by fine but still gets a free check every month. That just feels like money spread so thin it doesn't really help the people who need it most. I don't know, maybe I'm wrong, but it seems like a bad idea.

Thats a completely fair statement, there are plenty of people who are living just fine as is that would only be getting more money, but you should also think about those who are currently homeless, single parents, and those working three different jobs just to keep a roof over their head. Is a few well off people getting more money really worth depriving them of the money to maintain basic resources!

Fair enough, everyone should have enough to live on. But a check for absolutely everyone still feels weird to me, like it waters down help for people who really need it. I can't really argue it better than that, honestly.

Thats true, giving more money to billionaires and people with more money than needed definitely seems unnecessary, and it may feel like you're watering down the help to those in need, but that gets us in a more complicated spot. How can you pick and choose who to give money to and who to set aside? It may be unfair to give more money to those who don't need it, but I personally don't think it's worth the risk of abandoning those who might be too ashamed to speak up about their situation.

You're right that people struggling need real help, and I don't want to hand wave that away. I just keep feeling that sending a check to absolutely everyone, including those already okay, is a clunky way to do it. Sorry, that's just my gut.
