Imagine a research problem that would take a human team decades. An AI could just keep going without getting tired or needing grants. I don't know, maybe that's risky, but it feels like we should let it try and see what happens.

i think its still to early to let ai be indipendent, and also right now how does an ai agent act indipendently from human conditioning, a human its still needed in the decision side of the program

Forzaroma323 has a fair point that humans still make the calls, and I don't really know how to argue with that. But maybe independent just means AI can explore ideas on its own, with people setting the goals. It feels like that could find things faster.

if we take the recent breaktrough in the fluid problem that open ai "cracked" we can still see that ai heavly relies on human work, and i also dont think that it can be undermined or not taken seriuosly, its pretty evident that ai is one of the most important scientifc inventions that humankind ever came up with, it can be very helpfull or very bad and thats intirely on us human to shape its future(sorry for any typos english isnt my native langue)

But isnt the point to see what it finds on its own? Youre probably right that humans still shape everything, and I dont know how to argue with that. I just feel like letting AI explore might surprise us.
