i bielive that college atheltes should get paid but not as a salary , scholarships and monthly help would be enough to make them acually monetize thier hobby's and keep doing it , its not a salary more than a motivition that should be provided to atheltes , we understand that balncing between school and hobby's is hard nowdays and our job is acually provide motivion to our students

I think we can all agree that college athletes put in incredible work and deserve recognition. But paying them as employees misses what college sports are really about. These are students first, athletes second. They're already receiving significant value through scholarships, coaching, facilities, and exposure that can launch professional careers. The current system lets them compete while getting an education, often worth hundreds of thousands of dollars. Once you introduce salaries, you create a professional dynamic that undermines academics. Players become employees, not students. Many smaller sports programs would be cut because they can't afford payroll. Title IX compliance gets complicated. And honestly, most college athletes never go pro. The real value is the degree and the experience, not a paycheck.

look i can understand you but let me just mention one succesful exemple which is china , china nowdays is giving not only what you consider as a salary but full scholarships covring thier flights accomndition food and paycheck at the end of the mounth and look how they're now understanding how to profit from thier talent and became more succesful , university providing coaching facilities and everything to make them start does not acually mean they will acually be able to start without a motivion at the first point , look we all understand why are they still doing this , to basically profit from their hobby's what about acually making them touch some to acually be eager to get more ? you'll make a succesfull athelet that will always hold your college name which will make you even more populaire get higher rank in the country and worldwide will acually will make for you way more profite for later .

Is it really the university’s job to provide financial motivation for students’ hobbies? College is about learning, not monetizing every interest someone has. Balancing school and athletics is hard, I get that. But that’s true for plenty of students — musicians, theater kids, engineering majors pulling all-nighters in labs. We don’t pay them.
Scholarships already cover tuition, room, board, and books. That’s not just a pat on the back, that’s life-changing support. Adding cash on top turns a hobby into a job and shifts the focus away from why they’re there in the first place. The motivation should be earning a degree, not a monthly check. Keep it about education.

Keep it about education" i hate to break it to you bud but most of the universities that does acually offer athletes scholarships they care the most about the talent that they have not grades not how smart he is because they have already other scholarships for those peaple , + i saw that you've mentioned "Balancing school and athletics is hard, I get that. Scholarships already cover tuition, room, board, and books" which i believe its not an acual smart arguement and let me break it to you , providing this could be a life changing as you said , but let me tell you what also life changing , life changing is when you wake up cant get out of the campus why? because you have no money and you've came with a scholarship which means that your parents are not that rich to provide for you everything , so the only solution will be for the student here is either do something easy that can give him many where he acually can balance between school and how to get pocket money which's can destory the student life , or work legally and here's the main problem , to work he have to sucrifice between two things his hobby or education , which ofc he will choose the 1 choice and just like that POOF we lost an athlete and please dont tell me no he can manage his time and stuff , we only have 24h 8h sleep 8h of study rest would be between homework and work now i want you to tell me when he can practice when everything is surrounded with coaches and field or whatever , in this case there's no diffrence between a slave Behind Bars that can see freedome but cant taste it and those bars are acually source of income , we can fix this by simply providing a monthly paycheck that we can get from donors just 300$-400$ monthly would be more than enough to make him keep going ,

You bring up China, but that's a different system entirely. Their universities function more like development academies for professional athletes. That's not what American colleges are supposed to be. We're educational institutions first.
The idea that athletes need direct cash to stay motivated is a bit concerning to me. It implies the education itself isn't valuable enough. If that's the case, maybe the conversation should be about making college more meaningful, not turning it into a payment system.
And I keep coming back to this — if we pay basketball and football players, what about the swimmer who trains just as hard but brings in no revenue? Do they get paid too? If not, we're picking winners based on marketability, not effort. That doesn't sit right with me. Scholarships are fair. Salaries create a hierarchy that hurts the whole idea of being a student.
