Humans, as a species, are able to survive on this planet because of natural selection. We are the best, and that's why we are able to grow a civilization, build roads, get all the conveniences, and are able to grow the population to such a huge number. We are able to do all of this because we are the best, and editing human embryos will allow us to make even better people.

A genetic change made today might be safe for the person born, yet alter their descendants in ways we haven't modeled, and once it's in the germline, there's no recall. I agree, but isn't that how things are. Fire is a great hazard, and can cause a huge disaster. Thousands got killed from it. Same goes with nuclear energy. Does this stop us from using them? NO! Because we see the tremendous value it can provide, and look at the risk vs reward. Same goes with editing human embryos. Virus, Bacteria, can create generations in ~30 minutes. They're able to adapt to my medicines, and antibodies. We need genetic changes to outgrow them. There will surely be many mistakes initially. But we need to offset them with through trials, and testing. Not by an outright ban.

But editing embryos isn't natural selection—it's a single generation overriding that process without the feedback loop of time. Studies on CRISPR embryos consistently find off-target edits and mosaicism, meaning we're not engineering clean upgrades, we're introducing unpredictable variation. And "better" is subjective; evolution never optimizes for one trait. Once those edits enter the germline, future people carry decisions they never consented to, with no undo button. That's not progress—it's a gamble we can't responsibly take.

I would rather do it and be prepared for it, rather than leaving it to luck. Nature is hostile. There are gram-negative bacterias, virus, and all these can cause havoc. Would you like to leave it to nature to decide our fate? CRISPR is still new. You shouldn't outright ban something because we're unable to understand it right now. Look at the possibility, on how it can build heathier babies, resistant to cancer, malaria, and what not!

The fire analogy misses something crucial — fire's dangers are immediate and visible; germline edits ripple silently through generations we'll never meet. Your point about antibiotic resistance is fair, but somatic gene therapy already addresses that without permanently altering the human germline. We don't need to rewrite humanity's inheritance to fight disease. We need careful, reversible treatments — not irreversible edits we can't take back.
