I think that’s a really understandable concern. There’s an important difference between using gene editing to prevent a devastating disease and using it to choose traits like intelligence, appearance, or athletic ability. Once we move beyond treating serious illnesses, the question becomes much more complicated because we’re defining what kinds of people society considers “better.” I don’t think being cautious means rejecting the technology altogether, it means setting clear ethical boundaries before the technology gets ahead of our ability to regulate it.
