I get why it feels like we choose things, and my opponent probably has a point there. But every choice seems to come from stuff we didn't pick, like our brain or how we were raised. So free will just doesn't feel real to me.

Practically, when we are choosing abortion, the harm or the benefit is up for the public eye. It is a private matter between the individuals, and if they are fine with it, they can do it. It is the unborn child and just in the stage where male sperm and female egg met and doesn't fully develop or doesn't undergo complete somatic division to call "living thing" according to science.

The other side makes a fair point, though it seemed like more about choices than free will itself. I admit I'm not sure how to argue back. My gut still says if everything comes from causes we didn't choose, then we're not really free.

In some situation, you side maybe correct but doesn't stay certain because for the abortion case, the women should get the choice weither she want to discard the zygote or not especially when their body are weak to handle one in sexual cases. Most women tear their issues and even ruin their internal organs due to child bear. Which is not safe for both mother and baby. So it is better to discard before it becomes life-threatning for mother. As it zygote is just cell, it fails to meet the criteria of human. So it is not killing human being so it shouldn't be seen as murder.

A surprising stat I heard is that nearly half our daily actions are automatic. My opponent makes a fair point about private choices, but I still can't see how a choice is free if it comes from causes we never picked. That's my gut.
