Look, I get why full day school sounds appealing—it's practical for working parents, and people assume more hours in class equals smarter kids. But as someone living in a fast-paced city, I see the real picture. Indonesian kids are already spending around seven hours in school. Adding more just turns their day into a marathon.
Think about the average urban kid: they wake up at 5 AM, sit through traffic, sit through classes, and now they'd sit through even more. Where's the time to just be a kid? To play, to rest, to explore hobbies that actually spark creativity? A tired brain doesn't absorb lessons better—it just zones out.
And family time? If the school day stretches too long, kids get home late, parents get home later, and everyone's too exhausted to actually talk to each other. Sure, full day school might keep kids supervised, but that's not the same as a quality education. We should be asking how to make school hours better, not longer.
