Look, I get the concern. Parents are terrified about what their kids might see online, and that's valid. But banning under-16s outright isn't practical or fair. Most teens use social media to stay connected with friends, find support groups, or even learn stuff. Cutting them off completely just pushes them to less regulated spaces where we can't monitor anything.
We should be teaching kids how to navigate these platforms safely, not pretending we can lock them out until some magic birthday. A ban would also make it harder for kids to develop digital literacy skills early, when it's easier to learn. Plus, enforcement is a nightmare. Kids will just lie about their age, and then we're back to square one with even less trust. Education and better parental controls are the way forward, not a blanket ban that ignores how the real world works.
