My little sister's 14 and she's learned more about photography on Instagram than I did in two years of high school art class. I get the fear, I really do. But banning kids from social media isn't the solution - it's just putting a band-aid on a bigger problem.
Kids are gonna find ways around bans anyway. Remember when parents tried blocking websites in the 2000s? We all just found proxies. Instead of banning, why not teach digital literacy? Show them how to spot trolls, handle negativity, and curate a healthy feed.
Social media's how teens connect now. Their friends are there, their hobbies are there. Cutting them off completely feels like punishing everyone because some people misuse the platforms. Let's focus on better safety features and education, not blanket bans.
