AlphaFold is a great example, but look closer: it solves a well-defined folding problem using patterns from known structures in its training data. That's an extraordinarily powerful calculator, not a discoverer. Prediction only becomes discovery when a human interprets what the structure means biologically—its function, its role in disease, its evolutionary story. Without that conceptual step, the output is just data. So AI extends our reach, but the scientific discovery still happens in the human act of asking, interpreting, and validating. Call it a research instrument; calling it a discovery tool confuses computation with understanding.
