Let's be clear: I have no problem with AI as a tool. Artists use Photoshop, filters, and procedural generation all the time. The issue is eligibility for awards. Awards judge human intent, effort, and creative decision-making. When you type a prompt, the AI does the heavy lifting on composition, color, and form. You're a curator, not a creator. If we let AI-generated images compete, we're measuring the wrong thing. Is the prompt clever? The dataset huge? That's not the same as a painter choosing every brushstroke or a photographer framing a shot. You can't award craftsmanship that didn't happen. Until AI can intend meaning the way a human does, it's a product, not a participant. Awards should stay in the human lane.
