I think being gay is fine. Today, I, and probably many people alive with me, think of gays as normal people today, and they technically are. They eat, they breathe, and they talk. Just like normal humans. Treating them differently is just like sexism, since leaving one gender’s liking unbalanced is just very biased and disliked.

I agree being gay is fine and no one should be harassed or excluded. But the second half of the claim is where I part ways. Saying gay people shouldn't be treated differently sounds neutral, yet equal treatment isn't always identical treatment. Because they've been treated differently for so long, fairness often requires specific protections: anti-discrimination laws, equal marriage, safe healthcare. Those are different treatment on purpose. A purely neutral rule can leave old disadvantages intact. So I can't support the proposition as stated.

I completely agree with what my opponent said, since that statement supports my claim. Since they’ve been treated so differently, we should make it equal. Doing that is the first step to world peace, and it’s just like solving racism and sexism.

Picture a runner forced to start an hour late. Telling everyone "from now on, same rules" doesn't erase that gap. My opponent compares this to sexism, but sexism wasn't fixed by neutral treatment; it took different treatment, like anti-discrimination laws and targeted support. So their own analogy helps my case. I agree being gay is fine and no one should be harassed, but the proposition says they shouldn't be treated differently. Given the history, treating them differently is exactly what fairness sometimes demands.

Think of black people civil rights activists. They helped solve racism, and what i’m talking about relates. When we treated gay people like they were weird, we for some reason treated them alot better due to moral standards. When we solved racism, we treated black people normally, and helped balance peace.

I get why the other side wants to frame equality as treating everyone the same. But that's exactly the trap. If gay people have been denied marriage, housing, and safety for generations, then giving them those things now means treating them differently, because others already had them. My opponent says my point supports their claim, but it doesn't. "Make it equal" isn't the same as "don't treat them differently." Equality sometimes requires treating people differently to close a gap. So I still can't support the proposition as written.
