Imagine a point guard who already gets free tuition, housing, meals, tutoring, and gear, then also gets a direct check from the school. That feels less like college sports and more like pro sports, and I just do not think schools should have to pay players on top of all that.

it depends, cuz not all college atheletes gets scholarships or housing or meals or etc. if sutdents dont get any support from the school, i assume amount of reward atheletes get in return isn't fair

Does a scholarship already count as a kind of payment? My opponent makes a fair point about recruitment, and I am not sure how to answer that. Still, paying players directly on top of free school just feels like too much.

it depends completely on how much individiual students making profit for the universitites. some might not perform as well as other college atheletes, there might be sm1 like shohei ohtani too. if college choose to pay for the outstanding students, those students will have better motivations -> higher chance of uni winning the tournament or smth. by paying college atheletes, it will likely be win win for both parties

The other side makes it sound like scholarships are worthless, but free tuition and costs are already a huge benefit. I get that not every athlete gets one, and I admit that's a fair point, but direct pay still feels like turning college into pro sports. That's just my gut.
