Yes, rights like this that directly impact the government, should be shared across all people and all different opinions. Whats truly fair in democracy and elections of a big part of the population is discriminated and doesnt take a part of it?

Imagine someone who breaks into a house and gets caught. They broke the social contract, so why should they get to help choose the rules? I just feel like if you seriously break the law, you give up that right for a while. It seems like a basic consequence.

They should help to choose the rules because they are people, and like it or not they are people apart of this country and for elections to be truly fair they need to include everyone's opinion. This isnt a basic consequence its just a violation of the core part of democracy. Prison is a basic consequence that they get for their actions.

You make a fair point about everyone having a say, but I think it's wrong to treat people who broke the law the same as everyone else. They showed they don't respect the rules, so trusting them to help make them seems backwards to me. I just can't get past that.

We do not treat them like everyone else, they get prison time, in which they might get renewed, and imagine you renewed and changed yourself and adapted new opinions during prison but after prison you cant use the new opinions you developed after endless hours of thinking in prison in elections. That might seem backwards but prison is all about being a consequence and trying to change the imprisoned and giving him another chance after prison.

Take someone who votes illegally, like casting a ballot twice. They clearly don't care about the system, so letting them vote again just seems wrong. You make a fair point about democracy, but I still feel like breaking the law should cost you that right.
