I get why people say fan edits are just derivative. All art builds on what came before, though. Shakespeare borrowed plots, hip-hop samples old records, and remixes are everywhere in music. A fan edit takes existing footage and reshapes it with new pacing, tone, or meaning. That takes creative choices — what to cut, what to emphasize, how to reorder scenes. It's not just pressing buttons. It's making a statement. If we call collage art, we should call fan edits art too. They're just a modern version of the same impulse.
