Picture a young fighter in the gym, sparring with a headguard on. He takes a hard shot—his head snaps back, but the padding makes it feel less severe. So he keeps going, round after round, absorbing more blows to the head. That's the problem. Heavy headguards give a false sense of security. They add weight and can actually increase whiplash and rotational force on the brain. Studies show concussions happen more often with headguards, not less. I'd rather see boxers train smarter and protect their vision. Cuts heal. Brain damage doesn't. Let's get rid of the padding and focus on real head movement, not a false safety net.
