Morality does not require a divine lawgiver. Humans can reason about harm, suffering, dignity, autonomy, fairness, and equal moral consideration, then apply those principles consistently. You can challenge the foundation of any moral system, but showing that secular morality requires justification does not prove that God is necessary for morality.

Imagine a commuter finds a wallet stuffed with cash and no ID. Most people feel she should turn it in. But without God, what makes that should more than a preference, like liking coffee? If morality is just what societies agree on, it shifts with the majority. Slavery was legal; if human consensus is the final word, we can't say it was truly wrong, only unfashionable. The atheist can behave morally, sure, but that's borrowed capital from a moral framework they reject. God gives a standard above us and a final judge, so good and evil aren't just opinions. Without that, morality is possible as a feeling or custom. Not as a binding obligation. That's my case.

Secular morality does not have to mean “whatever society prefers”; slavery can be objectively wrong because it violates the interests, autonomy, and equal moral status of conscious people, even when a society approves of it. And God doesn't automatically solve the problem: if something is good because God commands it, morality depends on divine preference; if God commands it because it is good, then goodness exists independently of the command. A judge can punish wrongdoing, but punishment doesn't create the moral truth that the act was wrong.

Without God, the commuter isn't truly wrong to keep the wallet, just unkind or unpopular. You can build consistent rules, but consistency isn't authority. You keep treating “binding” as if it means “backed by a supernatural authority,” but that is an extra premise you haven't established. If the wallet owner has a legitimate claim to their property, deliberately taking it is wrong because you are violating another person's rights, regardless of whether a majority approves. And saying God provides authority still doesn't explain why God's commands are morally right rather than merely authoritative. Authority can enforce a rule; it cannot by itself turn a rule into a moral truth.

That's the faculty we're trusting to ground morality? Your Euthyphro point is fair, and I'd say God isn't a commander issuing arbitrary rules. Goodness reflects his character, so it's neither random nor something sitting outside him. But the core problem stands. Your framework says slavery is wrong because it violates interests. Wrong in what sense? That's a strong preference a lot of societies never shared. Mine says it's wrong because a standard above all of us says so.
