yes i do think public officals should get banned for using insider trading t shows that thier moral grounds stand to benefit them selves to be honest we have hardcore dems voting for free healthcare but when they make 30 million off insider trading no one bats an eye its a crime we need to put a stop to this these people dont see there position in the goverment as a helping factor to others but to them selves thats not what these people campaign and thats not what we the people vote for

Surprisingly, about 80 percent of stock trades made by public officials are under ten thousand dollars. I just don't see how a total ban helps with real corruption, honestly. It feels like punishing everyone for a few bad apples, and that makes me uneasy.

well for 10,000 although thats a low sum of money to these people that just shows that they are able to get sold out for that much amount of money and 20 percent isnt just a few bad apples thats multiple congress members that dont deserve the seat

You make a fair point about insider trading, that really is wrong. But I still think banning all stock trading goes too far. Lots of officials aren't crooked, and they should be able to invest their own money like anyone else. I'm just not convinced a total ban is the answer.

how else would we put a stop to this if we dont put a full ban on these people they are using the job to benefit for themselves and put down others

You're right that insider trading is a real problem, and maybe 20 percent is more than a few. But I still think a total ban treats everyone like criminals. Most officials probably just want to save for retirement. I'm not sure how to fix it without going too far.
