Eliminate genetic disease like cystuc fibrosis before birth, prevent future suffering, reduce medical costs, improve human health, empower parental choice, advance medical science
When my sister had her baby last year, I remember staring at that little scrunched-up face and thinking, "You're perfect just as you are." Who gets to decide which genes are worth keeping? That feels like playing God in a way that we can't take back. Once we start, there's no line to stop at.
Ik there are alot permanent changes to worry but certain things are upto the ppl, if any genes that ur kids shouldn't have then they shouldn't... Why should a baby be born defective. Family don't need to visit hospitals forever and worry abt the future of their kids... Do uk that some kids are less fortunate we can save them... Better be save than sorry
Over 90% of human DNA doesn't code for anything we understand, yet we're so sure we know what to edit. That worries me. We're messing with a system we barely grasp, and I'd rather accept our natural imperfections than risk breaking something we didn't even know mattered.
Unintended mistake can happen ik that but can any mother see her child be different from others... See her child suffer can a mother see that her child isn't accepted for who he or she is
My cousin has Down syndrome, and honestly he's the happiest person in our family. His parents were told he'd be a burden, but he brings everyone together. If we start editing out "defects," we're saying some lives aren't worth living. That's a slippery slope I don't want to go down.
