The core issue is that college athletes are already being compensated. A full athletic scholarship covers tuition, room, board, books, and fees. That's often a six-figure value over four years. For most students, that's life-changing. Adding a salary on top would fundamentally change what college sports are about. It turns student-athletes into professional employees. Once you start paying them, you have to decide who gets what. Does the star quarterback get paid more than the rowing team? What about Title IX? The practical logistics alone would create more problems than it solves. The current system isn't perfect, but paying players isn't the simple fix people think it is.
