I guess rap has a lot of styles, but I feel like you can still tell it's rap pretty fast. Classical or jazz has been around longer and seems to have way more range. Maybe I'm just not hearing it though.

That logic doesn’t work. You can always tell when a jazz song is jazz. Furthermore rap has fusions of every other genre which makes it even more diverse

Take a genre like classical—it covers everything from quiet piano pieces to huge operas and film scores. That feels way more diverse than rap to me. You probably have a fair point about subgenres though, I just can't shake this feeling.

You make a fair point about rap fusing with tons of genres. But even with all those fusions, it still feels grounded in the same beat and flow. Classical spans centuries of totally different sounds, from solo piano to huge orchestras, which just seems wider to me.
