You keep hearing the same tired line: "Esports isn't a sport, they just sit and play games." Right, because chess and shooting were always about running marathons. The Olympics already has events that test precision, strategy, and reaction time with zero physical contact. Esports demands insane hand-eye coordination, split-second decision-making, and mental stamina that would make most athletes cry. Why is twitching a mouse at 300 actions a minute somehow less worthy than twitching a trigger finger at a clay pigeon?
The "effort" argument is a sham too. These players train eight hours a day, study opponents like film, and deal with the same burnout and pressure as any swimmer. They're athletes of the mind, and the Olympic charter values skill, not just sweat.
If we're honest, the real problem is that esports is new and scares old gatekeepers. That's not a reason to exclude an entire generation. It's a reason to catch up.
